SEPA - Single Euro Payments Area
New European electronic payment landscape from 2008

The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is an initiative to establish an integrated European payment landscape where euro payments are subject to a uniform set of standards, rules and conditions.

Within SEPA national differences in payment instruments will be eliminated, facilitating trade and commerce within the Area, in addition to strengthening Europe's competitiveness.

The timeline for the implementation of SEPA commenced in 2008 and will run for several years.
